Mt. Vernon Fire Department Receives Grant

The Mount Vernon Fire and Rescue Department received a $2,000 grant from the Augusta Wal-Mart through the Wal-Mart Foundation.

The department said the money is for the purchase of two automatic external defibrillators and a standalone training unit.

"The Mount Vernon Fire and Rescue Department is close to having enough funds to purchase this life-saving equipment," Lt. Jason Beckler said. "With only $636 left to raise, the department is in hopes of placing this equipment in operation soon, thanks to the help of the Augusta (Wal-Mart) store manager, Gerald Tyler."

Donations to help us obtain the Defibrillators are welcome.

Please make checks out to the “Mount Vernon Fire Company” with memo of “Defibrillators”.
