October 2011 - Notes from the Fire Chief

This is Fire Prevention Week and eight members of your Department just finished a program at the Elementary School. A variety of materials were given out to the individual grades and all the kids came out to see the trucks and firefighting equipment.

Your new rescue vehicle has arrived and it’s in service. We are getting used to all its features and are impressed with its versatility. The “old” rescue vehicle is for sale, by the way, with an asking price of $3500. If interested, call me or the Deputy Chief, Tony Dunn. Revenue generated from this sale will be used to defray the costs of the new vehicle.

By now, you have probably heard that we are no longer able to provide a long-standing fire prevention tradition: chimney cleaning. The Town’s insurance provider maintains that providing this service is too great of a potential liability for us to continue accepting. As is so often the case, increasing liability concerns cause policy changes.

We’ll hold a community Halloween Party at the fire station on Saturday, October 29th, from 3 until 6 PM.

There’ll be lots of fun and activities for all, so we hope you’ll join us.

Dana Dunn,
Fire Chief
